It was November 23rd, 1964, when the treaty between Germany and the Swiss Confederation about the integration of Büsingen on the High Rhine into Swiss customs territory was signed.
But since Büsingen is German souvereign territory, in general the appliance of German law is continued

This treaty has been entered because of our unique location. It regulates, in which important matters Swiss law has to be applied.

According to article 2 of the treaty, Swiss law has to be applied for instance in the following matters:

- Büsingen is integrated in Swiss customs territory. Consequently, the community is factually assigned to Swiss economic territory and Swiss currency area.

- Swiss regulations apply to farming/agriculture

- Switzerland is responsible for provisions and supplies for the population of Büsingen in the state of emergency (e.g. during a war)

- Certain sectors in health care, for example the inspection of foodstuffs and narcotics are also under the control of Swiss law.
