Mill, Brewery, since 1964 a culinary place of pilgrimage

The «Alte Rheinmuehle» Buesingen

Each house has its story, but the «Alte Rheinmuehle» has three of them.
The house was built in 1674 as mill. The mill used the water from the river to turn the milling wheel inside the house. Later the house was changed into a beer brewery with restaurant. In 1964, hotelier Alfred Wagner took it over and changed it into a cultural and culinary place of pilgrimage, which made Buesingen famous far beyond its borders. Many people from Zurich, Stuttgart or Hamburg had never heard of Buesingen’s state- political background but they knew the «Alte Rheinmuehle» as cultural and culinary meeting point.
The community of Buesingen bought the house in 2003 and totally renovated it. It reopened on May 1st, 2004. The «Alte Rheinmuehle», the dignified, historic house with the unique restaurant and a romantic hotel is under the direction of Andreas Fischer, who offers his guests an eventful stay.
